Lyndsay C Clark, MSW, MDiv

Biography

I have been practicing clinical social work in Birmingham for over 10 years.

In 2012, I completed an integrated dual-masters program between Duke’s Divinity School and UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Social Work, securing both a Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Divinity (MDiv) degrees. In this program I had the opportunity to focus on the integration of clinical psychology and spirituality, delve into the work of faith-based community organizing, consider the underpinning theology of social justice work, as well as understand the nuances of religious trauma on the human mind and spirit. While I had brief tenure in church pastoral ministry, ultimately I was drawn to the individual counseling of clinical social work.

In 2015, after brief work in a community healthcare setting, I transitioned to Samford University in Birmingham, AL where I worked as a therapist and wellness coordinator in the University’s Counseling & Wellness office for seven years. In this setting I thrived offering individual therapy to young adults in their process of individuation and personal growth.

In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to start my own private practice based on Telehealth capabilities. It has been a joy to expand my client base and work with a more diverse population both virtually and now also in person.

As of September 2022, I transitioned into Samford’s School of Public Health to serve as the Director of Field Education and Instructor in Samford’s Master of Social Work program. In addition to this role I maintain “Clinical Fridays” to see clients through my personal private practice.

In an ongoing attempt to tend to the spiritual needs and interests of individuals across the lifespan, I completed a certification in Spiritual Direction through Selah Center for Spiritual Formation in May of 2023. While Spiritual Direction is a separate experience and service I provide distinct from therapy, insights from the training can and do influence my work in mental health for those individuals who seek to address mental health from their own faith perspective.
